Wellness Coaching

Nutrition

Like many others, I have struggled with nutrition and fell victim to those fad diets that end up in failure. I was feeling overweight and unhealthy which is why I decided to make a change. In that change, I developed a passion for understanding food. That is what brought me to Northeast Technical College. With a few months shy of graduation, I had already helped over 20 clients understand their diet struggles. My coaching style is about being mindful of my client's starting points, compassionate about their goals, and understanding of their barriers. I will be honest and empathetic, but I will challenge my clients by evoking their true reasons for change. I will be a tool and provide resources they may need along the way.

Stress Managment

Despite being scary, it is also exciting, It helps us get through tough times times and peaks our performance. Although we all need a little bit of stress & it can benefit us at times it can also cause us to burn out.  We tend to try to take on the world, instead we drown in a mixture of panic attacks & self-doubt, Sleepless nights filled with worry. When we stay in this stage for too long it can be damaging to our health. We don't see how our own habits contribute to our stress levels during this times. Remember, building a habit good or bad takes time. changing a habit does not come over night but there are several techniques we can utilize to help reduce stress and change unhealthy habits that weigh us down.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Wellness Coach

Defined by NASM: A wellness coach’s job is to support an individual in the process of making those choices. It’s important to emphasize that wellness coaching is not prescriptive, meaning they don’t tell their clients what to do. Instead they help their client to examine their choices for themselves, moving along an iterative, personalized, and unique wellness journey.

How Does Coaching Work?
  • Assessment and Goal Setting: Wellness coaches help clients identify their strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement. By working together, they help clients set realistic and meaningful goals that align with their values and aspirations.
  • Action Planning and Strategy: Coaches assist clients in developing personalized action plans and strategies to achieve their goals.
What Are Macros

“Macro” is short for macronutrient. What’s a macronutrient? They’re the three categories of nutrients you eat the most and provide you with most of your energy: protein, carbohydrates and fats. So when you’re counting your macros, you’re counting the grams of proteins, carbs or fat that you’re consuming.

Are Carbs Bad?

Carbohydrates are important in your diet for the following reasons:

They provide energy. Carbohydrates break down into glucose, the body’s main fuel. Neither protein nor fat is as efficient of a source of energy as carbs.

However not all carbs are treated the same nor do they react the same to the body.

Complex Carbs

Complex carbs pack in more nutrients than simple carbs. They’re higher in fiber and digest more slowly. This also makes them more filling, which means they’re a good option for weight control.

Simple carbs are sugars. Simple carbohydrates are digested quickly and send immediate bursts of glucose (energy) into the bloodstream.

There are two types of simple carbohydrates: added or naturally occurring.

Added sugars provide calories, but lack vitamins, minerals and fiber and can lead to weight gain. Naturally occurring sugars are in nutritious foods including fruit and milk. Unlike added sugars, naturally occurring sugars also contain vitamins, minerals and fiber — healthy nutrients our bodies need.
